There are people who have paved the way when it comes to who we love and how we are able to love so freely in this country. Loving, a film about an interracial couple, tells the story of Richard (played by Joel Edgerton) and Mildred Loving (played by Ruth Negga), and how they broke barriers with their marriage.
Because of the Lovings’ desire to stay together in a time where so many were completely against it, they were able to challenge Virginia’s anti-miscegenation law and eventually land their case in the Supreme Court. Little did they realize, this case would change the way interracial couples would function in this country for years to come.
According to The NY Times, the film has so far received strong reviews, and may be Academy Award worthy. Loving is set to be in theaters on Nov. 4
