Howard University will not perform for the Trump inauguration, but we know of one HBCU that will. It has been confirmed that Talladega College, the oldest private historically black college of Alabama, will be in attendance to perform for the historical occasion.
The band’s acceptance to perform (as announced by inaugural organizers) has been an extremely controversial topic to say the least. When many caught wind of the Marching Tornadoes performing for the event, the news sent many people, including alumni, into a frenzy.
According to the Huffington Post, one alumnus, Shirley Ferrill from the class of 1974, launched a petition on Monday in hopes that it would urge the college to not participate. Ferrill said that “In view of his behavior and comments I strongly do not want Talladega College to give the appearance of supporting him.” Of course Ferrill wasn’t the only against the school performing.
The Huffington Post also mentioned that according to a college spokesman, up to eight of the band’s 100 members have decided not to participate. The members will not be penalized for their decision.
You already know Twitter had a mouthful to say about this announcement!
Talladega College's marching band is a joke for agreeing to associate with that racist's inauguration.

Don't send your kids to Talladega College. Their band is participating in the Trump hate fest. https://t.co/yrqAXprwnv #GrabYourWallet

Although this news is truly shocking, we wish the band safe travels to D.C. as they march in this historic occasion!
