We all know the saying that there is three sides to every story— your side, their side, and the truth. We might be able to come to a happy medium of what that truth may be for singer Michel’le and ex-boyfriend Dr. Dre. While Dre looked like somewhat of a saint in the movie “Straight Outta Compton,” there are stories that his ex-lover claims he left out. These stories involve the abuse she endured during their rocky relationship of six years.

Lifetime is giving the South Central native an opportunity to paint a picture of her life while she suffered from physical abuse, substance abuse, and her rise to fame in a business that ultimately left her unfulfilled. And of course the film will focus on her relationship with ex-husband Suge Knight. While Dre’s past concerning his abusive behavior is not a secret, the skeletons began to slip out of his closet once more when “Straight Outta Compton” came out.

The squeaky voiced, soulful singer/songwriter is known for her hit single “Something In My Heart” and for being the First Lady of Eazy-E’s Ruthless Records. In a Breakfast Club interview, Michel’le gave some details about the abuse she dealt with. She stated that “When he gave me my very first black eye, we laid in the bed and cried…He was crying and I was crying because I was in shock, hurt and in pain. I don’t know why he was crying, but he said ‘I’m really sorry.’ That was the only time he ever said he was really sorry. And he said, ‘I’ll never hit you in that eye again, okay?’” He was right— She further expressed that he continued to hit her in other places instead, giving her “scars that are just amazing,” according to billboard.com.

Dr. Dre doesn’t completely deny the things he did. While at a press conference for his biographical film, he told Rolling Stone that “I would say all the allegations aren’t true — some of them are. Those are some of the things that I would like to take back. It was really fucked up. But I paid for those mistakes, and there’s no way in hell that I will ever make another mistake like that again.”

Abuse is never an easy subject to discuss, however, it is only right that Michel’le is able to tell her story in her own way. It is no surprise that Lifetime, a network that weighs in heavily on issues affecting women, is giving her the platform to do so.
