HOUSTON – In an effort to help expand Ronald McDonald House Houston, the McDonald’s Operators Association of Greater Houston (MOAGH) announced on Wednesday that they will donate $1 million to the House’s Behind Every Door campaign.

As the Texas Medical Center continues to grow, the demand for Ronald McDonald House Houston’s services also increases. Over the past five years, the average annual occupancy of Holcombe House, RMHH flagship facility, has climbed from 85% to 96%. Currently, 10 – 12 families that need services are regrettably turned away each day. Moreover, intensive use – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year – has created the pressing need for a series of important facility renovations and updates at Holcombe House.

To address these current capacity and infrastructure challenges, the RMHH Board of Directors approved the Behind Every Door Campaign to raise $20 million in order to fund a phased expansion and renovation of Holcombe House.

“Ronald McDonald House Houston is extremely near and dear to our hearts,” said Ken Kades, local McDonald’s Owner/Operator and Capital Campaign Committee member. “It is a home away from home for families facing life-threatening illnesses that also provides comfort and support to help cope with the unimaginable challenges.

While still in the quiet phase of fundraising, campaign pledges now total $10.2 million, representing 51% of the campaign goal. Building on the collective strength of the RMHH Board and Advisory Board gifts at $3.4 million, hospital partners – Texas Children’s Hospital, MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital, and Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital – have also stepped forward with historic gifts.
