Playing a musician seems to be a breeze to singer and actor Jamie Foxx! He is now executive producing the story and also playing the character of Marvin Gaye in a new television series based on the late vocalist’s life. This series is the first to get the approval of Gaye’s family. According to Gaye’s son, Marvin Gaye III, the series “will be a powerful and definitive telling of Marvin Gaye’s life story.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, actors including Jesse L. Martin and Lenny Kravitz have tried to bring Gaye’s story to life on the big screen, but nothing had been permitted by Gaye’s family until now. Suzanne de Passe and Madison Jones of de Passe Jones Entertainment will also be alongside Foxx in producing this series. de Passe, known for producing other Motown television series, stated that “We’ve been involved in a number of attempts to get this done, and now that we’ve been able to marshal all the forces, and Jamie’s come on board as a partner, we’re excited to get going.” We are excited too!!!
When talking about the legend, Foxx expressed that “I’ve been a huge fan my whole life. His brilliance in music unparalleled… Marvin Gaye’s story has always fascinated me.”
Record producer and songwriter Berry Gordy is also giving the green light for this highly-anticipated project! Gordy stated that “Marvin was the truest artist I have ever known… I am confident that this is the right team to bring his story to the audience in an authentic and compelling way.”
We are very excited for this limited series, and look forward to tuning in the day of it’s official debut! Until then, we’ll leave you with a little bit of magic from the Motown phenomenon himself.
