Houston Texans cornerback Kareem Jackson is widely-known for his skills on the field, but off the field and in the streets, he is known for his fashion. Tapping into his personal swag, Jackson has designed an apparel line to help bring fans a little extra flavor when representing the hometown team.
Player Inspired: Kareem Jackson Fly Guy is a line of T-shirts and caps sold exclusively at the Go Texan store and online. The collection, in collaboration with New Era and Majestic Threads, was launched Tuesday at the store at NRG Stadium.
Fans lined up to purchase their products, and get a little up close and personal with the fashionable football player. After the photo ops and autograph signings, the man who was voted “best dressed” by his teammates talked about his new venture.
The 26-year-old is a T-shirt and sneaker enthusiast, and said it feels good to be able to mix his love of fashion with his love for the game.
“More than anything I am just excited to have this opportunity. It was definitely a great opportunity for me to do something that I’ve always had a passion for in fashion. And to get a chance to do this, it is definitely a wonderful thing,” he said.
Football, of course, is his first love, but Jackson took it seriously when it came to the design of the product line and ways of keeping the “fly” line “fresh.”
“It’s a lot of flair, you know. I’m definitely going to have a lot of different things. It’s going to always be something different. It is not going to be the same thing every time,” Jackson said. “A lot of different patterns, using different materials and stuff like that, but at the same time, I wanted it to be comfortable. I think those are the main things when you are thinking about fashion.”
One shirt and hat will be released each month during the season. Ten shirts and five caps will be released in all.
“I just wanted to create something that the fans would like so they could have a couple of different options to wear to the game. I hope the fans like what I created because at the end of the day, it’s for them,” he said.
Jackson also had advice for other fashion designers looking to launch their brands.
“Just variety, you can’t just think about yourself when creating something. You have to think about the buyers; what they may like, what they don’t like, colors they like, patterns they like. You know they are the people that are going to wear your products. I think you have to keep all of that in mind,” he said.
Another part of his “signature style” are his arms, which are completely covered in tattoos. But until he goes into that business, looks like we will just have to keep the ink on the shirts and caps.
