CHETUMAL, Mexico— Why do fools fall in love? Because .. they .. just .. do! And one woman foolishly tried to spring her man out of a Mexican prison – allegedly – in a suitcase!
A spokesman for police in the Caribbean state of Quintana Roo told the Associated Press the woman was leaving the prison in Chetumal Monday after having a conjugal visit with her common-law husband.
Authorities said prison staff members noticed the woman seemed nervous and the black, wheeled suitcase she was pulling looked a bit bulky.
Spokesman Gerardo Campos said prison guards then checked the bag of 19-year-old Maria del Mar Arjona and found inmate Juan Ramirez Tijerina curled up inside in the fetal position, according to the Associated Press. She was then placed under arrest and her man was returned to the proper place.
Ramirez is serving a 20-year sentence for a 2007 conviction for illegal weapons possession.
