Snapchat is showing a new way to create a ‘Snap’ by introducing Spectacles—high-tech camera glasses that are funky, fun and meant to be worn in public! They are hoping the tech lenses do better than Google’s attempt at Google Glass, which seemed to have trouble pitching the wearable recording lenses to the public.

Google Glass had trouble pitching the product when the lenses were first announced, and much of the audience felt uneasy about the glasses, as well as the whopping $1,500 price tag. Snapchat feels that the price was more of the problem as it seemed to be a little to steep for millennials.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, the co-founder and CEO of Snapchat Evan Spiegel called Spectacles a toy, and recalled footage he took with the glasses.

“It was our first vacation, and we went to Big Sur for a day or two. We were walking through the woods, stepping over logs, looking up at the beautiful trees. And when I got the footage back and watched it I could see my own memory, through my own eyes – it was unbelievable,” he said as he described his experience with the glasses.

The glasses will take pictures and 10-second videos that will be automatically uploaded to Snapchat. The lenses will have a light that shows when someone is recording to help ease the concern that someone may record you without your knowledge. The promo video has been released and the estimated retail price is around $130. We’ll take the $130 over $1,500 any day!
