HOUSTON — You know we’re always down for the cool stuff, and there was nothing “more cool” than sampling more than our fair share of whiskey-infused ice cream…and it was all for a good cause!

The Yellow Rose Distilling, Houston’s first legal whiskey distillery, teamed up with CityCentre for the 2nd annual “Spiked by the Scoop,” and the evening was full of good music, great treats and even more magnificent “booze-infused” ice cream.

Top culinary and cocktail teams from the city’s best restaurant and dining establishments concocted their best recipes of adult shakes, sundaes and sandwiches to try and freeze out the competition.

Attendees were given the opportunity to walk among the rows and sample it all, and drop a string of red beads for their top choices. The judges, which included Lily Jang, Marcy de Luna and Eric Sandler, then made their decisions on whose “chill” was the best “thrill.”

Our “personal” favorites were the Buttered Popcorn Bourbon Ice Cream from Karbach Brewing Co. and the Bananas Foster Ice Cream Sandwich from Eddie V’s Prime Seafood, but in the end, the majority ruled.

The judges agreed with us and chose Karbach Brewing Co. for first place, and Grub Burger Bar came in second. The Freezing Point was selected by the attendees as the crowd favorite.  But everything — from everyone — was absolutely delicious!

The event benefited Homemade Hope, a culinary-focused nonprofit that brings a taste of home to the homeless and at-risk children living in local shelters and transitional living centers.

It may be hard to say goodbye, but when you’re toasting with the good stuff, it can feel so good!

The second annual "Spiked by the Scoop" was held on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016 at CityCentre in Houston.
