Over $5.9 million raised since 2003

Great news, all of that GRUBBING ON GOOD FOOD has paid off in a big way.  Houston Restaurant Weeks has broken a record with its 2014 month-long fundraiser benefiting the Houston Food Bank. HRW Founder Cleverley Stone was join ed at a press conference Wednesday by Houston Food Bank representatives, participating chefs, restaurateurs and sponsors in revealing the $1,600,162.25 donation commitment to benefit Houston Food Bank. Houston Restaurant Weeks is run by volunteers and 100 percent of the donations raised from area restaurants go directly to the food bank. For 32 days, diners enjoyed specially priced multi-course prix-fixe menus, and participating restaurants make donations to the food bank based upon their HRW sales.

I have been participating in Houston Restaurants Weeks every year and use it as a way to introduce my friends, family members and followers to new dining experiences.  This year, I took my children to Mr. Peeples, so it is great to see the restaurant was listed among the top donors.  We had a a wonderful time.  We went for brunch and enjoyed Belgium waffles and crab cakes with our traditional breakfast staples and yummy desserts.

The children loved the colorful, decorative atmosphere and the live DJ — a beautiful woman, I might add.

Our server Natalie was the best and really helped the kids narrow down their choices, while mixing it up, so they could sample and share.  I got the idea to take them somewhere “fancy smancy” from that famous Cosby Show episode where Cliff takes Rudy and her friends out for dinner at a high-end restaurant where the kids HATED everything on the menu.  Welp, we had no problems here…and it was loads of fun.

Until next year!

By the way, this year’s donation will generate 4,800,486 meals by the Houston Food Bank for those who are food insecure in our community. Founded in 2003 by Houston radio and TV personality Cleverley Stone, Houston Restaurant Weeks has raised more than $5.9 million for the Houston Food Bank, making it the largest annual fundraiser for America’s largest food bank and the largest restaurant weeks of its kind in the United
States.
