HOUSTON, TX – Do you know any girls who want to learn how to DJ? Well, we’ve got something for you!
Zelma “DJ Supastar” Lee is calling all girls ages 13-17 interested in learning how to disc jockey, to participate in DJ Summer Camp, which will be held in June.
The informational seminar presented by “Houston’s Preferred Lady DJ,” will be held at Lucky Strike located at 1201 San Jacinto on May 21 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The DJ summer class sessions will then begin in June and last six to eight weeks.
DJ Supastar said her purpose in creating the DJ Summer Camp is to offer girls an opportunity to learn how to disc jockey in what has been mostly labeled a “male-dominated” industry. She wants to give the girls the skills and confidence to compete with their male counterparts.
“When I first had the urge to learn how to DJ, I was at a stumbling block because I didn’t know where to start, but I knew I loved music. I was struck with “tough love” when I reached out for help, until DJ GT from 97.9 the Box agreed to let me be his understudy. The rest is history, and now it’s time for me to give back,” said DJ Supastar.
The DJ Summer Camp aims to offer a positive, yet educational, outlet for young girls during the summer months, and hopes to nurture the musical talent and love for music held by the participants.
Interested candidates wanting to apply, must be:
- Female
- Ages 13-17
- Must be able to attend 6-8 week summer session
- Aspiring disc jockey or lover of all genres of music
- Eager to learn the art of “mastering the mix”
The informational session will be a time to meet and greet with DJ Supastar, parents, and interested candidates.
DJ Supastar will also provide a brief session to include the history of the disc jockey, basic music structural theory, basic equipment set-up and basic mixing.
