She has arrived –and did it in style. Kelly Rowland shed the girl group persona as of “one of the others” in Destiny’s Child, and has established herself as a “motivated” force to be reckoned with.
The always beautiful, always talented Rowland was definitely an equal part of the group, but as much as the trio fought against it, Beyoncé’ was identified as the breakout star and leader. Rowland was sort of known as the sweet, cute one—but with an equally powerful voice.
Rowland stood the test of time, as she and Beyoncé’ were the only two “original” members still standing, and now Rowland is standing tall as a solo artist in her own right.
Rowland enjoyed previous success with her hit song with hip hop cutie Nelly, but that did not lead to the breakout we all hoped it would be. But now, her latest album is showing baby girl has some staying power.
Her latest hit, “Motivation,” is sexual, sex-filled and oozing with sexuality from head to toe. Did we say SEXY? Oh yes, sexy…sexy…sexy!
And her performance at the 2011 BET Awards in Los Angeles Sunday Night did not disappoint. It was actually quite reminiscent of a Janet Jackson performance.
“I think she caught everybody’s attention with that one,” says longtime fan Nakita Cole. “She brought it. It’s about time.”
Rowland was joined with Trey Songz at the performance’s steamy end, then (like Rick Ross) tore her shirt open to give the men a little something-something.
“I told my daughter, ‘Kelly took off her shirt,’” Cole says laughing. “Go, Kelly!”
We at Lip Service: News with Attitude love us some Kelly Rowland – and why wouldn’t we? She is H-Town all the way! You—go—girl!
