A love story comes to a tragic end as two Ohio teens commit suicide just two day apart. Eighteen-year-old Mercedes Smith was found unresponsive in her Lindsey Community College dorm room Thurs., April 20. She and her 17-year-old boyfriend, Markeice Brown, were reportedly expecting their first child together.
Mercedes was a member of the track and field team at her school, and her death was a shock to her teammates and coach.
“Mercedes was a good-spirited person who showed promise in her future,” Track and Field head coach Jamaine Gordon said. “She was a fun and loving person, and everyone enjoyed being around her. She will be truly missed.”
Smith’s friends and family believed that Brown had something to do with his girlfriend’s suicide, and was not allowed to attend her funeral service. In attempts to express his grief for his beloved girlfriend, Markeice posted a lengthy message to Mercedes and friends.
Today I lost my wife I should say I lost my life, can't put in words how i feel, we just talked last night why you ain't…

Sadly, unable to cope with the grief, Brown took to Facebook yet again, but this time it was to bid his own goodbyes. Just two days after Smith’s death, Brown went on Facebook live to reveal that he loved his family and friends, and to tell them goodbye. During this time, he explained that he was being blamed for his girlfriend’s death, despite how much he loved and cared for her. The pain was too much for Brown to handle, and shortly after the video was posted, he committed suicide.
“I just want to be around love, y’all. I just want to be around love…my grandma and ’Cedes. That’s all I want to be. I love y’all. I’m out,” were the last words that Markeice said before he ended the video.
