HOUSTON – They showed up and showed out — all in the name of charity.  Every once in a while, we get the opportunity to cover a beautiful event, for a wonderful cause, with a great group of people and this was no exception.

L’Renee & Associates hosted its 1st Annual Benefit Brunch honoring V&I Helping Hands, a newly founded non-profit organization whose mission is to help students and teachers in the Greater Houston area, Saturday, May 21.

The Big Hat Bow Tie Benefit Brunch, held at the posh Houston Club in downtown Houston, was held to raise awareness about a growing concern for children’s education in Houston.

Drastic budget cuts forced the state to lay off many teachers, in addition to reducing funds allocated for various school resources.

Many who are still employed said, not only will there not be enough teachers, but there will be less materials to help provide a top-notch education.

V&I Helping Hands, headed by CEO Venita Gaston, learned thousands of students in the Greater Houston area were beginning their school day without proper supplies, and to offset that, many teachers were spending $500 to $1000 every year to provide students with the necessary learning tools.

So, they decided to step in and do what they do best, provide a “helping hand.”

So thanks to L’Renee & Associates, various corporations and dozens of socially-responsible attendees, they were able to raise funds and awareness for this great need.

And, dressed in big, beautiful hats and bow ties, they did it in style!

The event was hosted by Will Norwood, and featured Big Hats from J.Reneè, Bow Ties from Bengjof Couture, decor by Naja Events and music provided by Mind, Body & Soul Jazz Combo.
