And the hits just keep on coming for T-Boz, and we (respectfully) don’t mean of the music variety. The embattled singer of the ultimately successful R&B/ Hip Hop girl group TLC has just had another blow to her misfortune – she has been forced to file for bankruptcy, according to TMZ.com.
This latest news is just another in a series of setbacks for T-Boz, whose real name is Tionne Watkins. T-Boz has endured a lifelong battle with sickle cell anemia, watched her group crumble after the death of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes in 2002, went through a public divorce from rapper Mack 10 and has recently battled a brain tumor.
What makes matters worse, according to TMZ.com Mack 10 is a deadbeat dad! The former couple has a beautiful 11-year-old daughter, Chase Anela Rolison, and Mack 10 is not fully contributing to her financial upbringing. The “For Life” rapper reportedly owes around $250,000 in back child support.
That money would be a big help for T-Boz, who is said to owe owes creditors $768,642.99, which mostly comes from the mortgage on her $1.2 million home.
TLC had ten top ten singles, four number one singles, four multi-platinum albums and four Grammy Awards … but according to the documents obtained by TMZ, T-Boz only pulls in $1,200 per month in royalties which is part of the $11,000 total amount she brings in per month. With her estimated $9,000 in monthly expenses, the singer is not left with much of a cushion.
We at Lip Service: News with Attitude wish her all the best, but we know she will be just fine. T-Boz has been a strong, beautiful, outspoken black woman who has always blazed a trail so all we can say is—nothing and no one will keep this sistah down!
And on another note, she is totally not alone – sistahs have been “doing it for themselves” for a long time now. She is in good company.
