Part of the wonders of the sea will no longer soar in the air because a relationship is ending. What are we talking about? The Southwest Airlines “Shamu” planes, which were some of the coolest to fly, will soon be repainted.

The airline and SeaWorld are ending their 26-year partnership at the end of 2014. For years, three planes painted to look like “Shamu” the killer whale have flown nationwide.

Both sides say “shifting priorities” are the reason for the split.

Earlier this year, activists with Change.org delivered a signed petition to Southwest headquarters urging the airline to end the relationship. The protesters cited the CNN documentary “Blackfish,” which focused on some controversial practices at SeaWorld.
