Nicki Minaj, who I love to call “her royal badness” let a lot of Republicans get excited before she dropped the bomb on them….Sorry, she is not on your team.
The colorful, cute, outspoken female rapper who is the current Queen of Hip Hop (with a somewhat split personality) caused a bit of a stir (for anyone who doesn’t REALLY know her style) when it was thought she endorsed presidential nominee Mitt Romney in a rap song.
“I’m a Republican voting for Mitt Romney, you lazy b*tches are f**king up the economy.” Minaj said in a Lil’Wayne mixtape song, “Mercy.”
Some Republicans thought she had crossed over and stood up for her expressing her freedom of speech. (A person I know actually expressed anger over some of the backlash from her fans, but I explained, no one ..especially me…really thought she did. It was just a classic Nicki Minaj move.)
Not even the Commander-in Chief was fooled. President Obama said he did not think it was an endorsement at all, telling WPYO-FM radio in Orlando, “She likes to play different characters.”
Minaj expressed her thanks to President Obama via Twitter for his understanding.
“Ha! Thank you for understanding my creative humor & sarcasm Mr. President, the smart ones always do…*sends love & support*@BarackObama” the tweet read.
So, a lesson learned for people who don’t understand Hip-Hop. It is unpredictable, it is calculated, it is controversial and most often, it serves a purpose. Ya dig?
