We love good news! Three local teenagers have another reason to love Popeye’s Chicken (besides the 99 cents Tuesdays) because the restaurant is helping them chase their dreams!
Popeyes® Louisiana Kitchen’s Houston-area franchisees today will present three scholarship checks totaling $15,000 for aspiring Houston firefighters. The scholarships will assist three incoming college freshmen with fire certification and EMT training courses at a local community college. Upon completion of these courses, the scholarship winners will be eligible to begin a career with the Houston Fire Department. The scholarship money was raised by Houston-area Popeyes franchisees who donated a portion of June 19 restaurant sales proceeds.
“Popeyes enjoys a longstanding relationship with the Houston Fire Department, and we are always excited to support them in any way possible,” said Popeyes franchisee Harry Stafford. “Firefighters play such a vital role in keeping our communities safe, and these scholarships are a way for Popeyes to show our gratitude by assisting three deserving individuals in their dreams of becoming a firefighter.”
The scholarship checks were presented to the winners, Justice Jones, William Moreira and Antonio Rodriguez by the Houston Fire Department’s C.A.S.E.Y. Club, whose mission is to foster a career path for high school students within the Houston Fire Department. The three scholarship winners were selected through an essay contest with the subject, “Why I want a career with the Houston Fire Department.”
Eligible scholarship candidates are required by the Houston Fire Department to pass a physical test and to meet the mandatory minimum grade point average.
