Never say that hard work and a great attitude won’t be recognized. The Detroit man who was walking 21 miles every day to work — rain or shine — received an unexpected surprise, all because of the kindness of strangers.
The world learned about 56-year-old James Robertson after a young man shared his story with the Free Press. Afterward, a fund was set up to help Robertson and strangers started pouring in donations. A college student helped raise more than $300,000 for him.
After the story captured national media attention, the factory worker received a brand new car — a 2015 Ford Taurus. Suburban Ford of Sterling Heights in Michigan donated the car in recognition of Robertson’s dedication and hard work.
Robertson started walking to work in 1988 when his Honda broke down.
