Anthony Horowitz, author of one of the novels in the James Bond series, has apologized after publicly saying he didn’t think Idris Elba would be a good fit to play the role of “007.”
The Trigger Mortis author said in an interview with The Daily Mail, “For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a color issue. I think he is probably a bit too street for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah.”
While fans are excited to see the British actor fill the role of the first black “Bond,” they also defended his craft after the statement was released regarding his ‘too street’ demeanor. However, Elba doesn’t seem to be affected by Horowitz’s comments. He posted a jab on Instagram and fans sounded off.
“Always Keep Smiling!! It takes no energy and never hurts! Learned that from the Street! 🙂 #septemberstillloveyou — @idriselba
Horowitz issued a public apology on his Twitter account, expressing regret over his poor choice of words.
But honestly! What’s wrong with a suave chocolate James Bond mixed with a little street?
