Toni Braxton’s life story is heading to Lifetime. It must be the season of biopics! The movie will be based on her 2014 memoir “Un-Break My Heart,” which is also the name of her 1996 smash hit. Of course, this will also be the name for the Lifetime original movie. ( I JUST REARRANGED THIS FOR FLOW)
“Un-Break My Heart” will retell the Grammy Award-winning R&B singer’s life story from her battle with the chronic illness, Lupus, her financial troubles, divorce, family struggles and dealing with her son’s autism.
“Un-Break My Heart is the never-before-told story of the measures Braxton took to make herself and her family whole again, serving as an inspiration to people around the world,” the movie’s official description reads.
The production of the film will begin later this year. It will be directed by Vondie Curtis Hall (Abducted: The Carlina White Story), executive produced by Craig Baumgarten (Twist Of Faith), Erik Kritzer (The Runaround) and Marcus Grant; written by Susan McMartin (Mom, Two And A Half Men); and produced by Link Entertainment. Braxton will also serve as executive producer and it has said she will also appear in the movie, but not as herself. There no word yet on who will portray Toni.
The supporting cast of the characters in the biopic will include Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, LA Reid, Pebbles, and the Braxton sisters.
Lifetime has done recent biopics on R&B stars Whitney Houston and Aaliyah, and has a reputation for being hit or miss with their autobiographical depictions.
Let’s see if “Un-Break My Heart” will go down in the books as a hit or miss.
