Sadly, just after one season the popular Netflix original series, “The Get Down,” has been canceled.
In a Facebook post, the creator of the show, Baz Luhrmann, hinted that part of the reason for the cancellation was due to him not having enough time to commit to the project.
“When I was asked to come to the center of The Get Down to help realize it, I had to defer a film directing commitment for at least two years. This exclusivity has understandably become a sticking point for Netflix and Sony, who have been tremendous partners and supporters of the show. It kills me that I can’t split myself into two and make myself available to both productions.”
While we may never get a chance to see what became of Ezekiel “Books” Figureo and “The Get Down” crew, the show was great while it lasted.
“The Get Down” is an American musical drama television series created by Luhrmann and Stephen Adly Guirgis. The series is set in the South Bronx in the late 1970s and follows Figureo and his crew as they try to live their dreams as a rap group around the disco and R&B era. .It premiered its six-episode first part globally on August 12, 2016 on Netflix.
