After 18 years of being out of the spotlight, A Tribe Called Quest is coming back with new music, and have some really dope collabs, including Kendrick Lamar, Busta Rhymes and Andre 3000!
It has been revealed that the album entitled “We Got It From Here, Thank You for Your Service” includes all four members (Q-Tip, White, Phife Dawg, and Ali Shaheed Muhammad) even after Phife Dawg’s passing while in the middle of recording the album at Q-Tip’s studio in New Jersey.
What makes the music so authentic is the way in which the songs were recorded. According to the New York Times, Q-Tip made sure that even the collaborators recorded their verses at his studio. Busta Rhymes revealed that “If you wrote your rhyme somewhere else, you still had to come back and lay your verse in Q-Tip’s house… So we pretty much did every song together. Everybody wrote his stuff in front of everybody. Everybody spat their rhymes in front of each other. We were throwing ideas around together.”
Another thing that makes this album so special is the fact that the group laid out their differences while discussing their break-up that occurred in the 90s. Before Phife Dawg passed away due to complications from type 2 diabetes, Q-Tip stated that “We went through all of the stuff and apologized, and it was just so good, man. We were so back.”
Although the release of this album is indeed bittersweet due to Phife not being able to see it happen, it can be said that his spirit will forever live on in legendary hip-hop. The world is ready to hear the raw, soulful sounds of ATCQ. The album is set to be released on Nov. 11.
