This may be one of the saddest stories that you will read all week, and it happened right here in Houston.
Former NBA player Delonte West, who played with the Cleveland Cavaliers, was recently spotted wandering around in a local Jack-n-the-Box parking lot with no shoes on, and he was not looking good at all. West appeared “out of sorts” and was wearing a hospital gown over his flannel shirt.
A fan (Instagram user shoun_htx) noticed West and approached him, asking if he indeed was the former basketball star. The fan said Delonte replied “I used to be, but I’m not about that life anymore,” according to TMZ.
For those of us who were stuck under a rock — myself included — West was rumored to have once slept with LeBron James’ mother. You can imagine the social media controversy that erupted after that (Google it) and the memes were something to see. The eight-year NBA veteran was also a first-round draft pick, and left the league in 2012 after playing with Boston, Seattle, Cleveland and Dallas.
It is reported that West has made more than $16 million in his career and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2008 after separating from his wife. He also had a disturbing interaction with an official in a game before. Now this.
Damn. Let’s pray for him and everyone suffering from mental illness.
