It may or may not have been the biggest mistake in the history of award show announcers, but it was definitely a huge embarrassment for the “Your World, Our World” contest winner Tiffany Green Sunday night at the BET Awards.
Tiffany, looking absolutely stunning in a hot pink, one-shoulder dress, took center stage with 106 & Park hosts Terrence J and Rocsi to present the Coca Cola Viewer’s Choice Award.
“And the winner is Chris Brown, Look at Me Now,” she read off the Evo tablet. Then looked up at the teleprompter and said “I’m sorry, Rihanna, What’s My Name.”
“OK, this is awkward ,” said Terrence J, who then announced the winner as “Drizzy Drake.” Drake came over and accepted the award for “What’s My Name,” by Rihanna featuring Drake (and gave a speech thanking LA Reid and J Brown for keeping his verse on the song) but it seems it wasn’t for him, either.
A clearly upset and humiliated Tiffany had a bit of a breakdown backstage and did what most people do in instances of public humiliation – they take to Twitter.
“Bawling backstage. They totally f*cked me up,” she tweeted.
“The tablet f*ckin said CHRIS BROWN….the TELEPROMPTER said Rihanna. What the F*CK?????? Goin home,” another tweet said.
Then continue with more tweets explaining the situation.
“So BET did that on purpose. Oh. I feel better.”
“Look b*tches….Im not SLOW. lol They did the sh*t on PURPOSE. F*cked up right? shrug smh”
BET host Kevin Hart cleared the whole situation up later and announced (on a segway scooter) that Chris Brown (who was alongside Hart on a bicycle) was the actual winner. Tiffany got it right the first time.
Whoever is to blame, she should not be embarrassed. She looked great, got to hand an award to Drake and met a lot of other stars at the show. It was clear that the blunder was no fault of her own.
