So, the rest of America is calling them “Forrest Gump” shoes..but I remember these in the 90s as “Gangsta Nikes,” made popular by the West Coast rappers like Eazy-E during my time.
At any rate, the “Cortez” Classic Nike with its streamlined features and herringbone style, first went on the market in 1972. The classic running shoe features a premium white leather upper, foam tongue, and a varsity red Swoosh logo. Now the vintage kicks will surely be a hit again.
Nike will be launching the Cortez in the same red, white and blue design that our encouraged our loveable box-of-chocolates hero to “Run Forrest Run.” Of course, the ones worn by Eazy -E were mostly black and white, but we love them all!
The Cortez drops on February 28. You can purchase them on Nike Sportswear and select Nike Sportswear retailers worldwide.
