HOUSTON — It has a been a rough three months for deputy Alden Clopton who was ambushed and shot by an unknown suspect four times, pulling over to assist a fellow officer.
Clopton was released and made a surprising first public appearance at Sanctuary Spa in River Oaks, as he was presented with a day of pampering.
The event was hosted by Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Chrisette Michelle and owner of Sanctuary Spa, Sabrea Munz.
“We felt like it would be really special to pick three gentlemen who have overcome adversity and who actually give back to the community, and every day they go outside and put their uniforms on and they put their life on the line,” Munz said. ”
Clopton said it’s been a rough road, but with his wife by his side, he is making major strides.
“I’m glad to be in this position to be able to talk to you now, it’s been a rough road, but thanks to my wife I got through it. I’m getting better and better.”
Clopton is a father of five and has, thankfully, made a speedy recovery, but he was not the only first responder who enjoyed the surprise.
“We are out there serving the community and we don’t take time out to do things like this for ourselves, to be honest with you,” Jeffrey McGowen said.
Officer Edwin Duncan said the spa day was a big change and much needed.
“It was relaxing compared to the duties that we do on a daily basis and it’s very tense after work; headaches, the body and you actually need a massage every day afterward so this is great,” Duncan said.
The responders were presented with a complimentary massage and facial, and special VIP meet and greet with Chrisette Michelle, who also gave them tickets to her Houston performance.
