Black Restaurant Week went out with a bang Saturday night at the “Power of the Palate” mixologist competition, hosted at Scrappy Browns in the heart of Houston’s Third Ward.

Rebecca Briscoe and Nakia Cooper are two Houston women on a mission to change the lives of young women of color in the community. They are the founders of “Sister 2 Sistah,” a mentoring program aimed at helping college-aged women overcome obstacles.

For those of you who don’t know, Nessacary is the bad, beautiful and bold recording artist who recently won “Best Female Hip Hop Artist” at the 2016 Go DJ Awards in Houston. And anyone who attended the awards and saw her perform live, knows what we are talking about when we say the Goddess does slay!

The 3rd Annual Go DJ Awards brought out some of the biggest talent and media heavy hitters in Houston on Monday.

In a world where women of color are often told “no,” two Houston businessmen thought it was time for a “yes,” and stepped up in a major way to give more than two dozen young women the opportunity of a lifetime. See how Sister 2 Sistah took over NYC!
